Something is not right!

No crying, just sheer panic, they had taken him too soon. WAY TO SOON....

Hunner was born at 2:01pm, via c-section, weighing a tiny 5lbs and measuring in at 18in long, his skin was almost transparent. He didn't cry, why didn't my baby cry? After what seemed like hours, they finally got him to cry, and as he cried, so did I. Little did we know, this was just the beginning of a long road, a road far to many parents have to travel.

During the first few weeks to months, I kind of ignored any "unusual" signs, he was 6 weeks early so I just assumed some things may be off. He didn't like to be touched, nestled, or held. He hated being unclothed, and he would go from calm and relaxed one second to a sheer terror scream the next, Hungry? Dirty? Uncomfortable? At times we would have no clue...Something didn't seem right. As the weeks went on we discovered Hunner had acid reflux and we swapped out his formula for soy, raised the end of his bed and started medication, and while that relieved some of the tears and screams, it didn't suffice my knowing that something isn't right.

Hunner hit all of his milestones super early in his life. He sat on his own around 3 months and began to army crawl, the only type of crawling he ever did at 4-5 months, walking by 9 months, but he never cooed, mumbled, or talked. I would always make it a point to mention to the doctor that he doesn't do any of those, and the response I always received was..."Every child develops on their on time"... "We will check his progress at the next visit"...and the classic "Don't worry much til he is over 18m old" .18 months old and still no words, not a sound, back to the doctor we go.

Hunner's second birthday rolled around, and the doctors decided it was time to do some tests,  they called a group to come to our home and evaluate Hunner. Not a word from Hunner was spoken, but he could stack blocks in the exact color and amount that was asked. He knew the difference in sizes and shapes and colors, but he never spoke a word. The lady ruled him as "non-verbal but completely normal" How!!

Hunner was exactly 30 months old, when one day out of the blue, I heard my baby say mommy!!  It was the most joyous day I have had since I heard my daughter say Mommy! Are we finally headed in the right direction? Is it safe to say my baby boy is as normal as all the other little boys?

 Only time will tell....
